Recovering from Emergencies

Recovery

Getting things back to normality after an emergency can take months or even years.

Your local council leads on restoring, rebuilding, and rehabilitating the community. Other agencies can lead, depending on the emergency.

Recovery planning considers the environment, communities, business and finance.

Cumbria has a generic recovery plan, adjusted for the needs of the community after the event.

Reach out after an emergency

After an emergency, contact the council for available support. While the full impact isn’t always clear immediately, the council and the community can help.

Contact your insurance. You may need to keep damaged items as evidence to be collected, valued and replaced.

Continue to check in on your neighbours and family.

Ways to help your community after an emergency:

Cumbria's Recovery Plan

Our Recovery Plan involves many agencies. It begins early during the incident, and runs alongside the response. When we understand the full impact, recovery planning becomes more detailed.

Community engagement and work with voluntary agencies are vital in recovery.
